Yoga Poses for Women Over 50

According to Ayurveda the age of 50 is only the half of life. Nevertheless, modern lifestyle makes us weak and sick; yet it doesn’t necessarily mean that we should suffer – we can live full life if we want, and yoga can help us.

Of course, the life rhythm changes as well as the outlook. So the practice should consider these changes and mainly consist of restorative poses.

You will only need 15 to 30 minutes a day to do yoga, but these minutes will help you get back a better mood, energy, get rid of dizziness; they are also helpful for women who are witnessing the onset of menopause. To achieve the best and sustainable effect from these postures, do them every single day.

Benefits of Yoga for Women Over 50

Even if you were very active before, due to hormonal changes in your body, the level of your current activity may be lower. Emotional sensitivity and fatigue increase, self confidence may suffer, because of the bodily changes; and here comes yoga – it helps to maintain your body in a good form, and if you were not fit before, you can become fit now (well, not immediately, of course, but if you simply practice yoga regularly, the results will come).

So, one of the benefits yoga can give you is the better health, both physical and emotional; you will get stabilized in this ocean of instability a woman usually finds herself at this age. Combined with a proper nutrition, you practice can make you lighter, more active and looking better as well (your skin will become healthier, as well as the other organs and systems).

There is another benefit beyond the physical side – it’s about your mental state. When we grow older, we notice that our body slowly degrades (sorry for my plain language here, but it’s a fact), and this can easily set us into depression. Yoga helps to improve the external appearance, but – through the means of pranayama and meditation – it also works internally, helping to rethink our life goals and values, and to look at ourselves and the outside world in a new light, and with a new perspective. Having such positive experiences, some people even consider their new stage of life to be the best. Why? Because they become enriched internally, and thus get satisfied.

Try these yoga poses for women over 50 and after a while you will definitely see the positive changes in your body and mind. If you have some health problems, consult with your doctor before starting your practice.
